About This Training

This 6-hour continuing education training equips Certified Recovery Peer Advocates (CRPAs) and Certified Addiction Recovery Coaches (CARCs) with the knowledge, skills, and trauma-responsive practices necessary to

support individuals safely and ethically. Participants will explore the impact of trauma on behavior, communication, and recovery, and learn peer-appropriate strategies rooted in safety, trust, choice, collaboration, empowerment, and cultural awareness. Emphasis is placed on preventing re-traumatization, promoting emotional regulation, and fostering healing-centered peer relationships. The training integrates trauma-informed principles with ethical boundaries, cultural humility, and lived-experience wisdom to strengthen peer support practice.

Through guided discussion, experiential activities, and scenario-based learning, participants will learn how to respond with compassion, cultural responsiveness, and role clarity while protecting their own wellness. Peers will leave prepared to create safer, more inclusive spaces that honor autonomy, reduce harm, and uphold ethical standards in trauma-informed support.
