About This Training

This 6-hour continuing-education training explores the power, responsibility, and ethical use of lived experience in peer recovery work. Participants examine how personal narratives shape recovery movements, reduce stigma, and build community healing. Through a trauma-informed lens, the training addresses self-disclosure, boundaries, and emotional safety in storytelling while highlighting ethical considerations of when, how, and why to share one’s story. Emphasis is placed on balancing authenticity and professionalism—empowering peers to use their voices intentionally and with care. Learners engage in reflective writing, group discussion, and applied narrative practice to craft healing-centered stories that promote hope, advocacy, and recovery. By centering lived experience and honoring each person’s voice, this training deepens understanding of peer identity, integrity, and the transformative power of story within recovery movements.
