About This Training

This 4-hour continuing education course provides Certified Recovery Peer Advocates (CRPAs) and Certified Addiction Recovery Coaches (CARCs) with the ethical skills, boundaries, and best practices needed to deliver safe, professional, and trauma-informed digital peer support. Peers will explore the foundations of ethical virtual peer work, including role clarity, confidentiality, accessibility, and communication expectations across remote platforms. The training emphasizes peer values, person-centered language, and the importance of maintaining appropriate boundaries while fostering trust online. Participants will learn practical strategies for setting digital communication limits, protecting privacy, and preventing virtual boundary violations. Through guided discussion, case examples, and scenario-based practice, peers will apply an ethical decision-making framework to real-world digital situations, including crisis responses and supervisory escalation. The training supports ethical, inclusive, and sustainable digital peer support that protects both the peer and professional integrity of the role.

Learning Objectives

  • Define digital peer support and clarify ethical peer roles in virtual settings.

  • Identify common digital risks related to privacy, accessibility, boundaries, and role confusion.
